This site has Unicode encoded Bengali texts. If you cannot see the Bangla texts, then you would need to setup your computer for Unicode. Here is how to setup. You may also need to install a good Bangla Unicode font. We have modified the  publicly available Ekushey Lohit font for better screen reading. Translation of a software in Bangla? What it really is and how it relates to developing website in Bangla. Read the questions and their answers about the Bangla translation.

Question 1: What is actually the Bangla/Bengali translation?

Ans: The translation replaces predefined Joomla strings from English to Bangla. The strings include, error message, information, prompt etc. It does not however translate the existing content or something that you would add.

Question 2: Is Joomla is  enough for making a Bangla/Bengali website?

 Ans: Yes! You have to install the Bangla (or English) version of Joomla and put your contents in Bangla. However, this process would not allow you translate certain things, such as menu texts etc. To get best results you would need a component of Joomla called JoomFish.

Question 3: What is JoomFish?

Ans: Joomfish is a component for Joomla that liberates the web designer to create and maintain a website in multiple languages. Even if a site doesn't use multiple language, Joomfish can help a lot in creating a website of non-English language.

Question 4: Does Joomla or Joomfish do the translation?

Ans: How could you expect that from a software? Translation is a complex task that involves human intelligence and experience. Though there are few software that can translate texts from one to another language, these are not fully functional or highly effective. Joomla or Joomfish is NOT a translation software, you have to do the translation. But, Joomfish helps a lot in doing the translation job. 

Question 5: I have found another Bangla (IndicBengali) translation, which one if valid?

Ans: Joomla! had the policy of not officialy recognising any translation leaving it a work of volunteers. After we started the Bangla translation, few Indian volunteers came in and created an Indic Language umbrella project to oversee translation of all Indic languages. We didnt join that umbrella and then finally was labeled as Bengali (Bangladesh). Joomla! now recognises both us and the Indian one. It is a matter of time to see which one prevails in future.
